Editorial – 40 χρόνια έκδοσης του περιοδικού της ΕΕΣΓΠΧ
Αγαπητά μέλη της ΕΕΣΓΠΧ, αγαπητοί αναγνώστες των «Αρχείων»,
Με μεγάλη θλίψη, η συντακτική επιτροπή των Αρχείων Ελληνικής Στοματικής και Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής αποχαιρετά τον εκλεκτό συνάδελφο και μέλος της, Καθηγητή Λάμπρο Γκουτζάνη. Ο Λάμπρος Γκουτζάνης υπήρξε μία εξέχουσα προσωπικότητα στον χώρο της Στοματικής και Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής, με πλούσιο κλινικό, ακαδημαϊκό και ερευνητικό έργο. Ως Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στην Οδοντιατρική Σχολή του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, ενέπνευσε πλήθος φοιτητών και ειδικευομένων. Το επιστημονικό του έργο εστιάστηκε στη χειρουργική ογκολογία του στόματος, των γνάθων και των σιαλογόνων αδένων, καθώς και στις χειρουργικές τεχνικές αποκατάστασης, πεδία στα οποία συνέβαλε σημαντικά με περισσότερες από 40 δημοσιεύσεις σε έγκριτα ελληνικά και διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά. Η αφοσίωσή του στην επιστήμη και η προσφορά του στην ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα θα παραμείνουν ανεξίτηλες. Στα της ύλης, στις αμέσως επόμενες σελίδες, θα βρείτε τη νέα στήλη βιβλιοπαρουσίασης. Η στήλη αυτή θα εμφανίζεται σποραδικά, και θα γίνεται μέσω αυτής μια προσπάθεια γνωριμίας συγγραμμάτων που αφορούν στην ειδικότητα της Στοματικής και Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής, ελληνόγλωσσων αλλά και ξενόγλωσσων. Αντικείμενο της πρώτη βιβλιοπαρουσίασης είναι το νέο βιβλίο των καθηγητών της Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, Αικατερίνης-Πηνελόπης Τριανταφυλλίδου και Γρηγόρη Βενέτη. Είχα την τύχη ως μαθητής τους, από τα φοιτητικά μου ακόμη χρόνια να έρθω σε επαφή με την ιδιαίτερη αγάπη και το ενδιαφέρον των δύο αυτών συναδέλφων για το αντικείμενο των κροταφικών διαταραχών. Με μεγάλη συνέπεια τόσο η Καίτη Τριανταφυλλίδου όσο και ο Γρηγόρης Βενέτης, ασχολήθηκαν και ασχολούνται με το τμήμα αυτό της ειδικότητας μας, λειτουργώντας εδώ και πάνω 30 έτη το σχετικό ειδικό ιατρείο στο εργαστήριο Στοματικής και Γναθοπροσωπικής, στον έβδομο όροφο της Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. Αυτή η εμπειρία μαζί με όλα τα σύγχρονα δεδομένα, και με την συμβολή συναδέλφων άλλων ειδικοτήτων, ταξινομείται σε ενότητες (βιολογία, παθολογία, διαγνωστική και χειρουργική) με τρόπο εύληπτο και ταυτόχρονα ιδιαίτερα περιεκτικό. Αναφορικά με το περιεχόμενο του τεύχους αποτελείται από τέσσερα άρθρα. Το 1ο άρθρο αφορά στο 3ο μέρος μιας εργώδους και υπερπλήρους ιστορικής ανασκόπησης από τον Ομότιμο Καθηγητή Νικόλαο Λαζαρίδη και τους συνεργάτες του [1], της ιστορικής 180 ετών πορείας της ορθογναθικής χειρουργικής, για να επισημανθούν τα χρονολογικά ορόσημα, να μνημονευθούν οι πρωτοπόροι χειρουργοί και να παρουσιαστεί η εξέλιξη διαχρονικών εγχειρητικών τεχνικών. Το 2ο άρθρο αφορά σε πρωτότυπη μελέτη, στα πλαίσια διδακτορικής διατριβής, που εκπονήθηκε στην Οδοντιατρική Σχολή του ΕΚΠΑ και πραγματεύεται τα λειτουργικά αποτελεσμάτα και την ποιότητα ζωής σε ασθενείς με καρκίνο της γλώσσας μετά από μερική γλωσσεκτομή [2]. Η έρευνα εκβάσεων (outcome research) λαμβάνει ολοένα και σημαντικότερη θέση στο σχεδιασμό των υπηρεσιών υγείας τα την τελευταία 25ετία, καθώς αποτελεί μετρήσιμο δείκτη της αποτελεσματικότητας της παρεχόμενης περίθαλψης. Το 3ο άρθρο αφορά πάλι σε πρωτότυπη μελέτη που εκπονήθηκε στο Νέο Δελχί της Ινδίας και παρουσιάζει την ανάπτυξη και την επικύρωση μια νέας πενταβάθμιας ακτινογραφικής κλίμακας δυσκολίας για την εκτίμηση της πολυπλοκότητας της εξαγωγής των γωνιωδών αλλά και των κάθετων έγλειστων κάτω τρίτων γομφίων [3]. Τέλος το 4ο άρθρο που αφορά και σε αναφορά πετίπτωσης όπου η χειρουργική αφαίρεση έκτοπου έγκλειστου τρίτου γομφίου της κάτω γνάθου έγινε εξωστοματικά [4]. Στο άρθρο «Ματιές στην Ιστορία της Ιατρικής» ο Δρ Δρ Α. Μυλωνάς, αναφέρεται στο βίο και το έργο του Καθηγητή John Lowry (1942- 2008), εξαίρετου γναθοπροσωπικού χειρουργού, εμπνευσμένου πανεπιστημιακού δασκάλου, πολύτιμου στελέχους της Ευρωπαϊκής Εταιρείας Κρανιοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής που δυστυχώς μας άφησε πρόωρα, έχοντας ήδη τεράστιο έργο [5].

Dear members of HAOMS, dear readers of “Archives,” It is with great sadness that the editorial board of the Archives of Hellenic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery bids farewell to its distinguished colleague and member, Professor Lambros Goutzanis. Lambros Goutzanis was a prominent figure in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a rich clinical, academic, and research legacy. As an Associate Professor at the School of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, he inspired a multitude of students and residents. His scientific work focused on the surgical oncology of the mouth, jaws, and salivary glands, as well as on surgical reconstruction techniques—fields to which he contributed significantly with more than 40 publications in reputable Greek and international scientific journals. His dedication to science and his contribution to the academic community will remain indelible. Regarding the issue’s content, in the following pages, you will find the new book review section. This section will appear sporadically and will serve as an effort to introduce books related to the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, both in Greek and in foreign languages. The subject of the first book review is the new book by professors of the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Aikaterini-Pinelopi Triantafyllidou and Grigoris Venetis. As their student, I had the good fortune, even from my university years, to witness the special passion and interest these two colleagues have for the subject of temporomandibular disorders. With great consistency, both Kaiti Triantafyllidou and Grigoris Venetis have been and continue to be involved with this part of our specialty, running the relevant specialty clinic in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery laboratory on the seventh floor of the School of Dentistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for over 30 years. This experience, along with current data and contributions from colleagues in other specialties, is organized into sections (biology, pathology, diagnostics, and surgery) in a manner that is both easily understandable and remarkably comprehensive. Regarding the content of this issue, it consists of four articles. The first article is the third part of an arduous and comprehensive historical review by Professor Emeritus Nikolaos Lazaridis and his colleagues [1], covering the 180-year history of orthognathic surgery to highlight chronological milestones, commemorate pioneering surgeons, and present the evolution of enduring surgical techniques. The second article is an original study, part of a doctoral dissertation conducted at the School of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which addresses the functional outcomes and quality of life in patients with tongue cancer following partial glossectomy [2]. Outcomes research has been taking an increasingly important position in the design of health services over the last 25 years, as it is a measurable indicator of the effectiveness of the care provided. The third article is also an original study, conducted in New Delhi, India, which presents the development and validation of a new five-point radiographic difficulty scale for assessing the complexity of extracting angulated and vertically impacted mandibular third molars [3]. Finally, the fourth article is a case report in which the surgical removal of an ectopic, impacted third molar of the mandible was performed extraorally [4]. In the “Glances in the History of Medicine” section, Dr. Dr. A. Mylonas discusses the life and work of Professor John Lowry (1942-2008), an excellent maxillofacial surgeon, an inspired university teacher, and a valuable member of the European Society of Craniofacial Surgery who unfortunately, similarly to Lambros Goutzanis also left us prematurely, having already accomplished a vast body of work [5].
