SUMMARY: Domiciliary dentistry constitutes a modern and essential health service that primarily addresses the needs of vulnerable and elderly population groups. The present review aims to present the field of domiciliary dentistry, the contemporary guidelines governing its implementation, and the current situation within the European context. Initially, its theoretical background is examined, and the increasing demand for home-based dental services is documented as a result of demographic ageing and the growing prevalence of chronic diseases. The benefits and limitations of this form of care are also evaluated. Furthermore, modern protocols related to organization, equipment, and infection control are presented, with emphasis on conservative therapeutic approaches and the use of digital technologies, such as teledentistry. At the same time, professional, administrative, and economic barriers are explored, along with the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Finally, reference is made to international experience, highlighting the need for the institutional integration of domiciliary dentistry into national health systems.
KEY WORDS: Domiciliary dentistry, special care, protocols, Europe.
