SUMMARY: The leiomyoma is a benign tumor which arises from the smooth muscle fibers, and it is usually located in the gastrointestinal tract and the urinary tract, and a lot less in the upper respiratory tract. The leiomyoma of the maxillary sinus – nasal cavity is a rare neoplasm, which is seen in adults and with a female predominance. It occurs either as a polyp or mass which can occupy the maxillary sinus, the nasal cavity, or both together. It can cause nasal obstruction, epistaxis and even atypical facial pain. We report a case of a leiomyoma of the maxillary sinus –nasal cavity, who presented with reported toothache, edema in the ipsilateral cheek, exophthalmos, and reduced movement of the ipsilateral eye. The diagnostic approach and the treatment of the maxillary sinus – nasal cavity are also discussed in this case report.
KEY WORDS: maxillary sinus, nasal cavity, leiomyoma, benign tumor
