Simon P. Hullihen (1810-1857): The pioneer Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Abstract:
Dr. Simon P. Hullihen (December 10, 1810 – March 27, 1857) an American physician and dentist is rightly regarded today as the “Father of Oral Surgery”, nevertheless during his short life he fought against skepticism, scorn and prejudice, before finally being recognized for his pioneering, inventive and at the same time daring work. He helped develop many modern techniques of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and contributed the most to establishing it as a surgical specialty, performing more than 1000 surgeries in the maxillofacial area.
